sho shaun brings molecular gastronomy to financial district


Off the beaten path and situated in the sexy Setai residences, Australian Chef Shaun Hergatt has made his mark in the financial district with one hell of a restaurant. Having worked in the South Pacific, the cuisine is French in nature but with a strong, Asian influences that brings a new twist to traditional fare in a chic setting. Hergatt delivers a solid execution of molecular gastronomy techniques, inserting a variety of texture and preparation into each dish.

The amuse bush dazzled us from the start: chicken on lime, sugar crusted jelly, smoked salmon on potato garnished with chive, a dish of crème fraiche and vegetable potage, and goat cheese sandwich.

beba: soho’s newest see and be seen (supper) club


Between the throngs of models lingering outside, European techno-house music emanating from within, and the vibrant bar scene spilling onto the street, upon first glance, Beba appears to be the newest addition to Soho’s ever-expanding nightlife scene. Not to be overshadowed by Balthazar, the storied staple of New York’s hybrid restaurant-nightlife scene just a few doors down, Beba invites diners in with an attractive waitstaff whose glamour is rivaled only by that of its clientele.

Sure enough, on a recent Thursday night, the space hosted a fashion show, with the private dining area on the lower level doubling as a catwalk, and the downstairs bar serving as a makeshift DJ booth. But in contrast to many of its hybrid bar-restaurant peers which focus on cultivating a swank bar scene, Beba is more than just a pretty face.

cfdas moving tribute to alexander mcqueen


Sarah Jessica Parker showed up to the CFDA awards clad in Alexander McQueen. It was a bittersweet moment, she looked fantastic. Far superior to the way that she looked at the various Sex & the City premieres. Sarah Jessica Parker later presented the tribute to McQueen which was followed by the showing of his fall 2010 collection, the last collection her produced before his suicide. Many throughout the audience began to tear up, especially when a video came on showing McQueen waving to the crowd.
