Partners & Spade is not your typical shop. It is open only on Saturdays and Sundays, and the items for sale include, for example, a drawer full of tiny toy telephones. Further investigation reveals that the store is only one half of the equation–Partners & Spade is also a studio which produces films, books, apparel and conceptual products as well as marketing and branding for corporate clients.

There are so many quirky touches to the space it is hard to convey in words.

This weekend I headed to superstar photographer Steven Klein’s home for a benefit hosted by Calvin Klein and Vanity Fair supporting Acria (Aids Community Research of Initiative of America.) Arriving at his Bridgehampton estate guests were transported via golf cars to the party tent in the vast backyard space. The Misshapes were djing, there was a photobooth and the sky was clear–everyone was ready to party. Heiress and fashion icon Daphne Guinness made her way from Klein’s home (where it was rumored Lady Gaga was hanging out) in a floor length grey gown, tulle head wrap, floral tiara and space age boots that she could barely stand up in. She looked out of place in a crowd of empire waste dresses to say the least, and it made her entrance across the lawn all the more memorable. The following conversation ensued between me and a friend:
