the halston woman is powerful, sensual and mysterious for spring 2011–sign me up

Powerful. Sensual. Mysterious. Sexy. Independent. Lovable. Yes, I am talking about you, and me, and Sarah Jessica Parker (creative director of the less expensive Halston Heritage line)–but most importantly I am talking about the Halston spring 2011 collection. Marios Schwab, Halston’s current designer, describes his latest collection as “Evocative, provocative, and sensual,” and smack, those feelings slapped me in face when I pushed past the hurdles of fabulous people in the narrow foyer of an intimate Chelsea Gallery into the presentation.

The first thing I saw was a mesmerizing statuesque model standing strong on top of a rock dressed in a cream and charcoal two-way sequin single-shoulder gown. It felt like she was the queen of the Halston tribe. After taking an embarrassing number pictures of her I continued to make my way around the room, quickly finding that all of the other models that made up the pack of the tribe were as powerful. One was lounging under a low palm tree in a blue and petal pink calypso cape dress. Another was standing in solitude in a camel double sided crepe kendo jacket dress. There were also two groups of independent yet coexisting women–one consisting of all Caucasian women in coral jersey, silk, or sequin looks and the other of all African-American women in powerful black jersey-based looks. The colors scheme of the collection was as dynamic as the women–consisting of regal gold, camel, white, black, etheral blue, pink and a bold coral.

I couldn’t help but contemplate the message the label is trying to portray this season. Is it about the power of a woman? Independence but also reliance on each other? Sensualism? The presentation’s scenic vignettes also played a big part in portraying each woman’s story–rocks, palm trees and abstract tubular arches that housed some lonesome models all enhanced the brand’s message.

Too good to not share, I spotted the amazing Anna Dello Russo at the Halston presentation.

Sarah Jessica Parker, the creative director of the Halston Heritage brand also made the rounds at the presentation.
