j.crew’s spring 2011 presentation

It was pouring rain but i knew that that J.Crew spring 2011 presentation was a can’t miss. After a cab and a subway and a bit of sprint I made it to the Milk Studios presentation sopping wet two minutes before it was over. It was well worth it. It was a streamlined collection from executive creative director Jenna Lyons, who during the presentation was working the room in an adorable lace jacket from the spring 2011 collection, army pants and chic Christian Louboutins (she really does define the J.Crew woman better than any celebrity could). It’s been said time and time again but every time I’m in Ms.Lyons presence it really is no wonder to me that J.Crew has been succeeding in spades. She has a creative vision for the mass line and the power to execute her vision (J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler considers her his right hand).

There were amazing pops of color in the collection including neon orange and candy pink. I particularly loved the duchess satin pants and the brocade skirt. The poppy orange lips that the models were sporting is an easy to copy trend from the presentation, and perfect for spring. Lyons was also playing with fabrics this season–linen, couture satin, sequins, denim, cashmere and brocade all made appearances.

While the clothes often overshadow the accessories I was in love with some key statement shoes and bags this season. I love the notion of mixing a utilitarian bag with a ladylike look, and the ombre green clutch is a wonderful piece as well. The shoes had an uptown vibe with just enough of an edge.

I even spotted former J.Crew cover model Lauren Hutton making the rounds. She seemed to be enjoying the collection, I know I certainly was.
