five things i learned about karl lagerfeld at the magnum ice cream launch

I came, I saw, I went–my dispatch for the Magnum ice cream launch featuring Karl Lagerfeld and Rachel Bilson.

1. Karl Lagerfeld (who shot a series of short films for Magnum ice cream’s U.S. debut starring Rachel Bilson) travels with an entourage of about 20 people seemingly at all times and a personal Diet Coke carrier. At the Magnum launch that included model and muse Baptise Giabiconi and editor-in-chief of V Magazine Stephen Gan.

2. Lagerfeld has the power to get Anna Wintour to just about any event (and wearing Chanel non-the-less) even a party for ice cream. Whether he can get the editrix to actually eat ice cream is another matter.

3. Even non-fashion folk gush over meeting Lagerfeld for the first time. Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival waxed poetic about getting to shake his hand at the event.

4. Despite his eccentric personality people tend to praise working with Lagerfeld and the enthusiasm he brings to projects. At Magnum Crystal Renn (who shot an ad campaign for Chanel with the Kaiser) and Bilson were eager to applaud him personally.

5. Seriously, Lagerfeld (whose actual age at this point is a little murky), seems to have boundless energy to take on projects including advertising, photography and of course design for both Chanel and Fendi at this point. More power to him, and I think we would all like to know how he does it.
