View From the Front Row will be highlighting the people, places and things that mattered in 2010 in food, fashion and design picked by our editors and contributors. Weigh in in the comments section, what made your 2010 list?

I have been in love with Erdem for years. Erdem Moralioglu’s romantic, colorful and wearable clothing feel inspired in a sea of unoriginal fashions, yet I’ve always felt the designer was destined for unrecognized glory in the crowded British marketplace. That all changed this past summer when Vogue editor Anna Wintour sported an Erdem dress and immediately catapulted the label into the spotlight. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy for a designer to gain such immediate exposure and praise. 2010 was also a year of collaborations for Erdem including with leather goods brand Smythson and London department store Liberty. The label’s Spring 2011 collection did not disappoint (think lace, florals and tea dresses) and has already been spotted on a slew of starlets including budding fashionista Michelle Williams. The label keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for its future.

Alice & Olivia always has a fun party vibe at its presentations and the latest show was no exception. I arrived to the event space to find a long line because the doors had not yet opened. And who was behind me, none other than blogger dujour Tavi Gevinson. Come to find out she had styled the band and the dj for the presentation, and while she may have taken on celebrity like proportions in fashion lately she has yet to develop any diva-tude which was quite refreshing. I loved the show, which had a fun 1970s style, but wasn’t as literal as Marc Jacobs’ interpretation of the trend. And I love going to shows where I can afford everything, and fully intend on buying the leopard feather skirt.

Christian Siriano is a rare bread of designer–a celebrity from his Project Runway days he has managed to transcend his fame with a strong point of view. This show was influenced by African, Indian and Chinese apparel. There were cocktail dresses that would look good on the everywoman and major jaw dropping gowns that are screaming for an editorial. Siriano is still collaborating with Payless this season, shoes that were shown on the runway will be reconfigured for a mass audience.

Trina Turke took us on a trip this season to Palm Beach. The collection had that perfect mod beach summer vibe and was staged in various staged rooms. There was the bedroom, living area, playroom complete with backgammon and a bar area. The colors and prints were of course fabulous (this is why women love Trina) and is making pine for the return of summer–or at least a trip to the Breakers in Palm Beach.

Richard Chai kicked off fashion week with a light and ethereal show. There were washed silks, matte leather and linen dresses and perfectly cut trench coats that I adored. Chai also introduced a sheer nude nylon body stocking slouchy legging layered throughout the show. The jury is still out on the sheer pants, would you wear them? All in all it was a great show, with some wonderful pieces. And I was sitting right behind Bill Cunningham, what could be better?
